Waking | Original Watercolor

$180.00

6 x 8 on Wood Panel

If you are lucky enough to experience the sunrise, just after it appears at the moment she uses her light to weave her way into even the smalls of nooks and crannies, shadows seem to disappear from all angles. Waking is an homage to the recognition of warmth in that moment. A light that not only intermingles with the landscape around us, but blankets our face, causing one to turn and soak it in without hesitation.

Watercolor paintings are created with professional grade paints on artist grade materials, including archival watercolor paper that is acid and lignin free. All watercolor paper is mounted on fir-wood boxes to create a beautiful and professional looking raised-canvas look so they are ready to hang without professional framing.

Using a high-yield pigment paint, watercolors paintings are completed with wet washes, dry details and lifting techniques.

This item is available for studio pick-up only. Please click here for details.

When the some days feel like the lens through which we view it is a little too crisp, the colors a little too vibrant, I often pick up my watercolors and let their hazy determination change my viewpoint. Horizons is an exploration of the various viewpoints we can capture when we look far enough. The line where sky meets water, mountain, or tree-line. Painted with a combination of wet and dry approaches, these abstract landscapes echo the rarities in nature when lines become blurred. A foggy shoreline, the first light of dawn, or thick clouds of a storm shrouding what little light is left. I vacillate between oils and watercolors to allow myself to go back and forth between determining every hue and brush stroke, or allowing the ethereal plans of watercolors choose where they will guide me.

View fullsize It's that rainy summer day, do a lot of painting, put on a podcast, light a candle, catch up on laundry, ignore all the dust and dirty bathrooms, wear cozy sweats, and listen to the drips outside with the windows open kind of day.
