Refuge | Print of Original Oil Painting

from $35.00

My family went on an extended road trip a while back. We crammed into an RV and set out without a plan or a map. It was idyllic and an incredible gift. Most of our days were nearly perfect (as perfect as you can get with 5 people in vastly different stages in life in a small space). We hit the occasional storm, we had to move a couple times when we happened upon some questionable situations, but for the most part, every facet of the forest, field, or mountain we ended up at, was amazing. We saw the beauty in not just the destination, "insta-worthy" spots, but the lesser known, less visited ones as well. This is a gorgeous spot, beyond a guardrail, while we waited for windy-road car sickness to pass. A sort of refuge for all, extraordinary in an ordinary situation.

This Giclee print of an original oil painting is printed on archival cotton rag paper. The fine art paper is a luxurious, 100% cotton, premium paper and is acid and lignin-free with an additional 1 inch border. Additional print sizes and printing surfaces (including canvas) may also be arranged through a custom order. Please contact me to inquire about printing commissions. For additional care, handling and framing information, please see the FAQ section. The FAQ section also includes information regarding flat or rolled shipping. Colors of prints may vary based on your device. Prints are made to order so please allow 1-2 weeks for your custom order to ship.

Painting the Tidewater series took me on a journey for a year, exactly to the day. I have dabbled in painting other subjects and exploring different painting styles and Tidewater felt like coming home. Water has always called to me, beckoning with its depth and showy treasures sparkling on its shorelines. I began this series by painting Glass Water on my birthday, early in the pandemic when we were all still trying to figure out how to pass the time for a couple of weeks. The later paintings became a journey through my favorite places and sunny days when the gloom felt like it hung over us like a dark cloud that outstayed its welcome. Dark blues mixed with warm undertones sculpted my water and bright moments of joy in warm peaches, pinks, and reassuring greens dotted my coastlines and tree-lined cliffs. Strong rocks and boulders, undeterred by the anxiousness of the world showed up and began anchoring the beaches. This series began out of worry and unrest and journeyed my soul to a place of hopefulness and discernment. I feel most tranquil when I am by the water, and I found my way to a peaceful self while painting the shoreline.
