Peripheral | Original Watercolor
6 x 8 on Wood Panel
What do we see in our peripheral vision? The suggestion of light and dark? Colors that seem to take shape and assign themselves a wishful tone, rather than accuracy? This painting captures a conceptual sky, then fades into the impermanence of land and water that is introduced by the corner of our eye.
Watercolor paintings are created with professional grade paints on artist grade materials, including archival watercolor paper that is acid and lignin free. All watercolor paper is mounted on fir-wood boxes to create a beautiful and professional looking raised-canvas look so they are ready to hang without professional framing.
Using a high-yield pigment paint, watercolors paintings are completed with wet washes, dry details and lifting techniques.

When the some days feel like the lens through which we view it is a little too crisp, the colors a little too vibrant, I often pick up my watercolors and let their hazy determination change my viewpoint. Horizons is an exploration of the various viewpoints we can capture when we look far enough. The line where sky meets water, mountain, or tree-line. Painted with a combination of wet and dry approaches, these abstract landscapes echo the rarities in nature when lines become blurred. A foggy shoreline, the first light of dawn, or thick clouds of a storm shrouding what little light is left. I vacillate between oils and watercolors to allow myself to go back and forth between determining every hue and brush stroke, or allowing the ethereal plans of watercolors choose where they will guide me.
