Inside Passage III | Print of Original Oil Painting
The scene that is my muse; Inside Passage. This one influenced by a moodiness achieved only with deep blues and a cloud cover that shines that smoky haze through it. Our new reality in the Pacific Northwest is that we have a new late summer season that comes with heatwaves and wildfire smoke. Our windows are closed and our houses are stuffy. And yet, it’s still beautiful outside. The substantiality that our world can be both right now. Concerning and beautiful. Smokey and invigorating. Heartbreaking and encouraging. It’s both/and in this new world.

There is so much heaviness around us. In the world, in our communities, in our personal lives. It can feel overwhelming, heartbreaking and guilt inducing. I was reflecting on this and working through big emotions while painting the “Hang On” series. The magnitude of emotions keeps lifting off the canvasses and flooding the crevices of every day. There is a collectiveness with everyone Hanging On.
These paintings were an exploration into the experience of processing what it means to work through emotions, experiences and heartache instead of avoiding them. They are made up of many layers and warm tones juxtaposed with cool shades. Hold On is a collection of rich complexion, high contrast, and subdued saturation.
