Halcyon | Print of Original Oil Painting
Halcyon. It's a word that is used to describe idyllic times in the past that are remembered as better than today. Halcyon is often used to describe something peaceful and calm, in life or in weather. When the world feels a little off, as it has been prone to feel frequently these days, I seek out the halcyon treasures. The sun peeking through the clouds, arriving somewhere early instead of late, or having the gift of being in the moment and fully present somewhere. This harbor, in the middle of a city, stopped me in my tracks one day. The water was glass, the wind was still, and the city fell silent. A halcyon moment.

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, one might say I’ve become fixated on the landscape surrounding me. Rainy beaches, soft waves that are protected by distant shorelines, sun-laden coves of trees and an endless sky of clouds - it’s all a boundless muse. This current collection of works were painted over the course of several months, during a storm season that defines a new normal, affected by climate change. I used brushstrokes, lines, shapes and color embody emotion within the vastness of these landscapes. I am calling this series “Devotion”.
