Deception | Print of Original Oil Painting

from $30.00

An iconic bridge and one of family lore. It's beautiful, breathtaking and a little dangerous. When my mom was little, she tried to row a small dingy from La Conner to the bridge with her two little sisters. They almost made it before a fisherman pulled alongside them and made them turn around.

Years ago we went camping on a tiny island nearby with only boat access. A state fish and wildlife worker beached on the island to check our permits. He then let us hop in his boat and he took us fishing under the bridge. What a surprise! And then a couple years ago, we took a small boat we inherited through the channel under the bridge. We started out nervous, and then nearly wet our pants when The Clipper came roaring through and nearly capsized all the boats between the rocks. This may be the last time I have a view like this from under the bridge.

This Giclee print of an original oil painting is printed on archival cotton rag paper. The fine art paper is a luxurious, 100% cotton, premium paper and is acid and lignin-free with an additional 1 inch border. Painting the Tidewater series took me on a journey for a year, exactly to the day. I have dabbled in painting other subjects and exploring different painting styles and Tidewater felt like coming home. Water has always called to me, beckoning with its depth and showy treasures sparkling on its shorelines. I began this series by painting Glass Water on my birthday, early in the pandemic when we were all still trying to figure out how to pass the time for a couple of weeks. The later paintings became a journey through my favorite places and sunny days when the gloom felt like it hung over us like a dark cloud that outstayed its welcome. Dark blues mixed with warm undertones sculpted my water and bright moments of joy in warm peaches, pinks, and reassuring greens dotted my coastlines and tree-lined cliffs. Strong rocks and boulders, undeterred by the anxiousness of the world showed up and began anchoring the beaches. This series began out of worry and unrest and journeyed my soul to a place of hopefulness and discernment. I feel most tranquil when I am by the water, and I found my way to a peaceful self while painting the shoreline.
