Deception | Original Oil Painting on Canvas
20 x 20
An iconic bridge and one of family lore. It's beautiful, breathtaking and a little dangerous. When my mom was little, she tried to row a small dingy from La Conner to the bridge with her two little sisters. They almost made it before a fisherman pulled alongside them and made them turn around.
Years ago we went camping on a tiny island nearby with only boat access. A state fish and wildlife worker beached on the island to check our permits. He then let us hop in his boat and he took us fishing under the bridge. What a surprise! And then a couple years ago, we took a small boat we inherited through the channel under the bridge. We started out nervous, and then nearly wet our pants when The Clipper came roaring through and nearly capsized all the boats between the rocks. This may be the last time I have a view like this from under the bridge.
Oil paintings are created with an underpainting and finished with an Alla Prima technique. Oil paintings are created with artist grade paints, canvas, solvents and oils. All edges are also hand-painted with a continuation of the artistic subject, rather than masked edges, resulting in a beautiful raised look that will look professional both framed or unframed. Dry times for oil paintings last 1 year or more and have been completed.

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, one might say I’ve become fixated on the landscape surrounding me. Rainy beaches, soft waves that are protected by distant shorelines, sun-laden coves of trees and an endless sky of clouds - it’s all a boundless muse. This current collection of works were painted over the course of several months, during a storm season that defines a new normal, affected by climate change. I used brushstrokes, lines, shapes and color embody emotion within the vastness of these landscapes. I am calling this series “Devotion”.
