Coastal Blues | Original Oil Painting on Canvas

$365.00

The tide seemingly went out for miles. When my children discovered an endless swath of sand, dotted with miniature rivers of water bubbling up, they could not stop themselves from exploring further and further. I looked back at the shoreline we started from, dotted with massive beach logs that were almost too small to see now and was flooded with a moment of reverence for the gift of walking on this borrowed shore while the tide was exceptionally low.

Coastal Blues is a warm contradiction of foggy blues and pink hues, capturing the gift of footsteps on the seashore.

Oil paintings are created with an underpainting and finished with an Alla Prima technique. Oil paintings are created with artist grade paints, canvas, solvents and oils. All edges are also hand-painted with a continuation of the artistic subject, rather than masked edges, resulting in a beautiful raised look that will look professional both framed or unframed.Dry times for oil paintings last 1 year or more and have been completed.

Watercolor paintings are created on artist grade watercolor paper, mounted on a boxed wood panel with archival glue. I use archival, professional grade watercolors in high-yield-pigment. Watercolor paintings that are not wood-box mounted are unframed due to the abundance of framing styles and options for paper-based watercolor art.

Painting the Tidewater series took me on a journey for a year, exactly to the day. I have dabbled in painting other subjects and exploring different painting styles and Tidewater felt like coming home. Water has always called to me, beckoning with its depth and showy treasures sparkling on its shorelines. I began this series by painting Glass Water on my birthday, early in the pandemic when we were all still trying to figure out how to pass the time for a couple of weeks. The later paintings became a journey through my favorite places and sunny days when the gloom felt like it hung over us like a dark cloud that outstayed its welcome. Dark blues mixed with warm undertones sculpted my water and bright moments of joy in warm peaches, pinks, and reassuring greens dotted my coastlines and tree-lined cliffs. Strong rocks and boulders, undeterred by the anxiousness of the world showed up and began anchoring the beaches. This series began out of worry and unrest and journeyed my soul to a place of hopefulness and discernment. I feel most tranquil when I am by the water, and I found my way to a peaceful self while painting the shoreline.
