“Understories” grew out of a season of looking closer—beneath the surface of days that felt both heavy and quietly luminous. So much lives in the layers we rarely name: the undercurrents of memory, the small reckonings, the moments that stir without announcement. While painting this series, I found myself tracing the delicate textures of what it means to observe and feel, letting each canvas hold the quiet truths that often go unnoticed. These works unfold slowly, revealing softened edges, muted depths, and the subtle shifts of light that mirror the inner terrain. “Understories” is a recognition of what we carry, and what carries us, even when we’re not fully aware of it.
